Get Listed on Google
Submit
your Website for FREE to Google, Yahoo and Bing
If you get listed high on Google and the
other search engines, it's the best source of free website traffic there
is. The three biggest search engines right now and the ones you should care
about are Google, Bing and Yahoo. Together they represent about
94% of all internet searches.
It is FREE to get listed on Google, Bing and Yahoo.
Once your website is built and it's the way you want it, click the links
below:
Yahoo requires you to register in
order to get listed with them. If you don't want to bother
with that just submit your website to Google and bing and yahoo will
add you to their listings shortly.
How to Submit Your
Website
When you go to list your website, it will ask you to submit your url. That means
they want you to put your website in this format:
http://www.YOUR-WEBSITE-NAME.com So make sure when you submit
your url to the search engines that you put the
http://www. in front of your domain name.
You only need to submit your website once to each of
these services. It usually takes 3-6 weeks for your site to appear.
How can you tell if your website is listed in the
search engines?
To see if your site is listed go to Google (or Bing)
and type in "site:www.YOUR-DOMAIN-NAME.com" (without the quotation
marks.) This will let you know
if the search engines have indexed your website or not.
Warning
There are companies out there that will offer to
submit your website to hundreds of directories and search engines for
you for a fee. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Google represents
about 65% of all web searches right now, Bing 13% and Yahoo 16% for
a total of 94% and they are all FREE to submit to.
It isn't worth your time or money to submit to the
others. If you are in Google and Bing your website will appear in the other
search engines soon enough.
What about AOL?
I recently had someone ask me about how to submit a
website to AOL and why I didn't list them here.
AOL's results are populated by Google's search
listings so if you are in Google you automatically appear on AOL.
What's next?
Let's face it. You don't want to just get listed
in the search engines. You want to get listed near the top so
people will find your website. It doesn't do you any good if you
show up on
page 15 of Google. No one will ever go that far in the results to
find your website. You want to be as close to #1 as you can get
for your search term.
For this you will need to know how to optimize your
website so the search engines will rank you highly. This takes
time and effort to do but it's very much worth it.
Here are some articles I wrote that explain what
search engine optimization is and what you need to do to your website to
help increase it's search engine ranking.
